Amoud University is a university located in the city of Amoud, Borama in the northwestern Awdal region of Somalia.[1]

Local control of the city is disputed between Awdalland, a proposed autonomous state, and Somaliland, a self-declared republic that is internationally recognized as an autonomous region of Somalia.

Mission

Amoud University aspires to be a paragon of excellence in education and scholarship in the Horn of Africa, as well as a pioneer in the promotion of understanding between the various cultures and communities in the region. Amoud university promotes the first inter tribal communication in Somalia since the civil war.

Admission

Amoud University is a community-owned, non-governmental national university that is open to all aspiring candidates who meet the admission requirements regardless of sex, ethnicity, creed, color or religion.

Admission to the university is based on competitive examination. Candidates who have obtained an adequate passing grade in their secondary school exit tests are eligible for the admission examination that is held each July. Candidates from abroad who have matriculated under different educational systems are evaluated by the Admissions Committee on a case-by-case basis.

Academic year

The university operates according to a semester system, and the academic year begins in September and ends in July. There is a brief one-month break after the first semester, and two months of holiday at the end of the academic year.
